Q: How old do I need to be to do the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification?
A: Candidates must be at least 16 years of age before commencing a National Pool Lifeguard course. Courses that are operated and funded through a college may require candidates to be 16 at the start of the academic year in which the course runs e.g. 31st August 2011.
Q: How do I book onto a course?
A: Please contact us via the 'Contact Us' page and leave your name, address and which course you are interested in and we will be happy to send you an application form to complete. Places on courses cannot be reserved without a completed application form and cheque to cover payment of the course.
Q: Where do you operate National Pool Lifeguard Qualification courses?
A: We use many centres and are ever growing. Our centres at the moment include King Alfred Leisure Centre, Brighton College, K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley, Steyning Leisure Centre, Sovereign Leisure Centre, Beacon Community College and Wadurs Community Swimming Pool.
Q: Do I have to attend the whole course if I already hold other lifesaving or lifeguard awards?
A: A number of awards and qualifications are recognised as approved prior achievement and can reduce the minimum training time required. However, this is only possible where it will not disrupt the course or disadvantage other candidates and is therefore at the discretion of the trainer.Exemptions may apply to holders of the following awards and qualifications:RLSS UK Bronze Medallion or higher award HSE Approved First Aid at Work Certificate RLSS UK Life Support 3 Award Please note that all awards must still be valid and evidence of achievement will be required.
Q: I am already a pool lifeguard but need to renew my qualification, how can I do this?
A: You will need to attend an assessment only which currently costs £55. This is providing that you can show written evidence of having completed a minimum of 20 hours lifesaving, CPR, first aid training and competency assessment in conjunction with the undertaking of lifeguard duties during the 2 year validation of your qualification.The assessment is always held on the final day of the course. Please contact us for more information.Please note that if your qualification expires before it is renewed or you cannot meet the above criteria you will be required to attend the full course as if you were a new candidate.
Q: Will I get a job at the end of it?
A: There are always opportunities for casual and full time lifeguards in swimming pools across the country and the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification is the minimum qualification required.For young adults, gaining the qualification is excellent for university applications or CVs and can lead to part time employment while you complete your studies.Lifeguards can expect to earn from £5.00-£8.00 per hour depending on the area and type of pool. Q: How long is the qualification valid for?
A: The qualification is valid for 2 years from the date of the assessment.You can then renew your qualification at any time during this period by taking the assessment only. Q: How do I know I have got a place once I have sent my application form & payment in?
A: Once we have received the application and payment we will book you onto the course you have requested, a confirmation letter will be sent to you within a week and then approximately one month before the course starts a complete confirmation pack will be sent to you.
Q: Once I have finished my course when will I receive my certificate?
A: Once all paperwork has been processed, assessment reports will be sent off as soon as possible. On the completion of your course an assessment report will be completed and you will be given a copy as proof of your qualification until your certificate comes through in the post. Certificates are sent directly to you at the address given on your assessment report form and may take up to 4-6 weeks to get to you.
